London Indie Underground
LIUG - Soundcloud
LIUG - Twitter
LIUG - Archived Past Podcasts

The links above are to a podcast I recently discovered.  I tuned in tonight to really check them out, being that I had two hours I could listen to them before working on my own podcast.

The host has a good voice, and the guest tonight were all well spoken.  They were knowledgeable about the topics they were speaking about.

The ratio of talk to music is way higher than what I do on my show, but it seems to work for this show.

There is a good chance that I may become a regular listener.  They're almost "local" for me, and everyone who listens to my show knows how much I like to support local bands.  What do I consider Local to me?   Kitchener, Waterloo, Stratford, London, Hamilton.   All big cities near where I live and I consider them all local.

This show seems to only be playing london bands, which I can imagine it's hard to keep a good running supply of songs to play.

Ingress

So Google released a new game in closed Beta this fall on November 16, 2012.  It's not tottally known how long the beta will last, but I got my invite last week.   The game is called Ingress.

Wikipedia on Ingress

Here is part of what Wikipedia has to say:

Ingress is an augmented reality[1] massively multiplayer online video game created by NianticLabs@Google, released for Android devices.[2] The game has been called "a data gold mine" for Google.[3]
Players of the game belong to one of two factions, “Enlightened” (represented in green) and “Resistance” (blue). The game-play allows players to enclose regions of territory on the surface of the earth with virtual links between virtual portals, which are visible in the game software. The top-level goal of the game is for one’s faction to control large numbers of “Mind Units”, the estimated number of humans within the regions of territory controlled by the faction.[4]

The website for the game is: http://www.ingress.com/

And while you can download the game from the google play store, you need an android device to play on, with gps and data... and an invite to play.  You can request an invite to an email address, and to try and help speed up the process you can do some creative artwork and post it on twitter or G+.  That is how I got my invite.  I posted a couple of art pieces to my twitter and had an invite within minutes.

I'm in a small town with only a couple of portals.  But you can submit portal request at historical or important locations in town.   Most towns with portals have them at locations like city hall, court houses, train stations, libraries and post offices.

Sadly the weather is bitter cold here where I live right now and it's impeding me from getting out side in a more portal populated town, walking around and hacking as many portals as I can.   And every time I say hack a portal, my brain flashes back to the movie from the 90's, Hackers and the show on that movie where they were always saying "Hack The Planet"

Overall I'm enjoying the game so far.

Daniel Bryant's New Relase!

I played Daniel on a previous Insomnia Radio Canada Show.   He recently release a new album.  I've been lucky enough to preview several songs on this album and the tracks I've listened to are excellent.  I quite enjoy Daniels's voice.  And he's Canadian!

I will be playing two track from the new album on a show not too far in the future.

Go here to check out Daniel and the new album: http://www.danielbryant.ca/

Out of the “Darkness” and into the “Light”...

Daniel Bryant returns with the release of his sixth full length album,
“MIRROR”.  The double concept album, co-written and produced with Erien
Eady-Ward, skips effortlessly across musical genres as it leads us on an
emotional journey of redemption from “Darkness” to “Light”.
The character driven concept behind the stories of MIRROR carries the
listener from uncomfortable worlds of pain and anger to an almost
spiritual rebirth of love and hope.
As we experience MIRROR’s 2 hour musical odyssey, the compilation of 18
songs allows us a look into the lives of these characters, and at the
same time, encourages a reflection on our own lives.

Vienna Psychoanalytic Society - VPS
From: Kitchener Ontario
Song: Pumped
Song: I am a Proxy (dubstep rest DJ )

http://www.facebook.com/vpsofficial

Jeff Chard played his first club, the legendary Highlands in Cambridge, at 16 years old
in 1988 as part of the band Back to Front. He went on to form the Anti Socials,
Funkchannel, The Marlins and id v.s. superego over the next twenty years. With each
band came a cassette or CD release of original music, as well as lots of gigs in the
Cambridge, Guelph, Kitchener – Waterloo and Toronto areas.
Chad Kreutzweiser first made his presence in the late 80’s as DJ Rhythmic Action but
quickly changed gears to keyboards and synthesizers.  Influenced by bands such as New
Order and Depeche Mode, Kreutzweiser went on to form alternative electronic bands
Sector Seven, Master Unit and CRE8OR until 1995 when he took a long hiatus.  In 2007
he re-surfaced as Solosonic.
Chard and Kreutzweiser had been looking for a way to merge guitar-based and electronic
music independently for several years when they were introduced by Kreutzweiser’s
cousin and formed Vienna Psychoanalytic Society in 2008. With young families,
professional careers and a love for old-school new wave and modern Britpop in common,
V.P.S. exists to create a music of common influences. In 2009, “State of Mind,” their first
release, served as an amalgamation of this art. In 2010 and 2011, four songs from the CD
were featured in the MTV shows "The Real World: D.C.," "Styl'd" and “Bad Girls Club.”
In May 2011 the much-anticipated second VPS album “Anthems for the Disillusioned”
was released.

Solosonic
From: Kitchener Ontario
Song: Gone Too Far
Song: Fend For Yourself (remix)
http://www.reverbnation.com/solosonic
Solosonic is an electronic music project based in Kitchener (near Toronto), Ontario, Canada consisting of keyboardist Chad Kreutzweiser. The project started in January 2008 and there are plans for an official debut release in early 2009. Primary influences are by unique bands such as New Order, Depeche Mode, Front 242 and Cabaret Voltaire.
History: It all started in 1989, myself (Chad Kreutzweiser) and two other high school friends (Lloyd Peart and Sean Brohman) formed an electronic punk industrial band called Sector Seven. Our main influence was Front 242. An experimental endeavor, which dissolved after high school. In 1992, myself (Chad Kreutzweiser) and Lloyd Peart regrouped to form CRE8OR. A more serious project with new equipment and re-freshed sound we produced a full-length album called ‘Another World’. This is probably the most prolific release we have made. After a long hiatus I returned to music again in late 2007 I became 'Solosonic'. WOW how things have changed!

Jasper is the primary songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, and synth-builder of the alternative rock band, In My Coma. Though Jasper has spent the last several years in southern Ontario, the foundation of his musical creativity rests in his English heritage. Born in Guildford, a small city south of London, England, Jasper grew up listening to the popular British bands of the 80s, thanks to his father's passion for the music. Through In My Coma, Jasper's music combines the energy and loudness of modern rock with the dark and melodic characteristics of Brit-pop.
Born and raised in southern Ontario, Canada,

LauraDoll grew up listening to the music of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's, as well as blues and country artists throughout the various decades.

Later, inspired by the likes of Hole and L7 and the entire "riotgrrl" movement, she decided to start learning the guitar at the age of 13. Having jammed with a lot of friends throughout her teenage years, she never joined a band until 2004 when she met Jasper James in a recording studio in Burlington, ON. At that point, LauraDoll bought a bass and joined Jasper's band in full-force.

Mike was born and raised in Alberta and at age 11, moved to Asia with his family where he spent 6 amazing years that helped shape him into the person he is today. It was just prior to the move where the burning desire to play drums boiled inside him. Mike finally picked up a pair of drumsticks and bashed his first drum kit at age 13. He was able to carry a beat on his very first attempt and the rest is history...

Mike is the drummer and most recent addition to "In My Coma". He has known Jasper and LauraDoll since early 2007 and the three maintained a friendship during that time before joining forces in the spring of 2010.

In My Coma is the creation of vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Jasper James. Though Jasper has spent the last several years in southern Ontario, Canada, the foundation of his musical creativity rests in his English heritage. Born in Guildford, a small city south of London, England, Jasper grew up listening to the popular British bands of the 80s, thanks to his father's passion for the music.

IMC’s music combines the energy and loudness of modern rock with the dark and melodic characteristics of Brit-pop. Focusing on a world where so much still remains undiscovered and unexplained, the lyrical side of In My Coma conveys unusual stories with themes of death, darkness, and fear, fused with ambiguous elements of hope and human potential. The musical compositions compliment the lyrics by combining unusual chord progressions and an off-the-wall blending of notes. All of these elements fall into place in IMC’s radio-friendly songs that are constructed to be meticulously melodic.

“In My Coma is about open doors, both musically and aesthetically,” asserts Jasper. “A friend said that our music made him picture ‘magnets and miracles,’ which is a brilliant way of explaining ourselves and what IMC is all about. We’re all connected, and sometimes bad things happen, but nothing is without some form of purpose.”

In My Coma’s debut album, available now, is appropriately titled "Magnets & Miracles". IMC seeks to experiment with their musical adventure. The album is a collection of interrelated songs about darkness and human connection, with formidable elements of heavy rhythmic rock and electronic sampling. As Jasper puts it, “With our first installment, we don’t want to ring people’s doorbells, we want to kick the front door down.”
